The Home Front
Food production at the Home Front

The Home Front is the name given to the activities of civilians during the Second World War. The nation pulled together in the war effort.

In the Great Britain this meant that women joined the work force in jobs that the men used to occupy. Rationing was introduced on food, clothing and petrol and other items. Everyone played a part however small. Families grew vegetables in their victory gardens. Civilians served as Air Raid Wardens, volunteered to join the emergency services. Schools, churches and other organizations held money collections to help the war effort. Scrap metal was collected to help in industry and making weapons.
